RE: Brakes life on 5th wheel

I bought a 2002 5'er TH last year and thought it was a good idea to have the bearings greased and brakes checked. Good thing! One of 4 was shot due to broken internal parts. I usually grease and inspect my brakes anually on all of my trailers. They also usually need adjusting as they do not have automatic adjusters like cars with drum brakes so.

RE: A reliable Generator?

No one in Dallas will touch the Kipor? I find that hard to believe. Find an RV dealer that sells them and I bet you that they will service them. BTW, my Kipor has ran great for three seasons now. The only trouble was my fault and my local RV dealer fixed it, no problem, and I didn't even buy it from him.

RE: What is it and do I need it. . .

This looks like a tow vehicle to brake controller harness. It is used to install a brake controller to your vehicles wiring harness. The fuse is probably to provide power to your 4 or 7 pin connector. Check your vehicle owners manual on how to install or see your dealer.

RE: Running Air with EU2000 and Eu1000

1. How do these parallel kits sync the frequency of the two inverter generators which is what paralleling really means. 2. When paralleled, are the two Hondas running in ISOCH or DROOP? 3. How is load sharing handled? Is there a sense wire between the two generators to handle load sharing?

RE: Electrical - please help point me in the right direction

The converter is connected to a lug on the DC circuit board by a very short connection. Make sure that this is a good connection on both ends. Make sure screws are not clamping down on the insulation, but on the wire itself. The other positive lug on the circuit board is the battery connection and it appears to be working from your OP. If you have the converter properly connected to the circuit board then there is a possibility that there is a bad solder joint on the circuit board. With the TT unplugged from shorepower or the converter turned off, measure voltage from ground to both positive lugs on the circuit board to isloate the problem. Let us know the results of this test.

RE: Yamaha 2400 question

One important point, what is the altitude you are testing at? You will lose about 3% of available power for every 1000 feet above sea level. I am at mile high and my 4000/3500 Champion will not run my 15K AC unless I turn my converter off. At 5000 feet elevation, I guess I am down to less than 3KW with the Champion and as I said, it will only start my 15K AC if my converter is turned off. It seems your 4800 KW should run either of your AC's at least individually with no problem.

RE: Tow Vehicle Question

Nope Donn0128, his truck GCWR is 23000. Ford upped it between 2004 and 2005 from 20000 to 23000. There is no difference between a F250 and a F350 except ride height.

RE: Converter isn't going to cut it

ve1hup, You will be happy with the Xantrex XADC 40. So far, mine has performed as advertized. I really did try to get the WFCO to work, even trying two different ones but I couldn't get it to go to bulk or float.

RE: Help, New Yamaha 2400 won't run 13.5 AC

It is about 3% of your HP for every 1000 feet altitude increase so you are down about 30% of your HP because your generator is rated at sea level on a standard 60 degree day at 29.92 INHG barometric pressure.

RE: Help, New Yamaha 2400 won't run 13.5 AC

"what about when it's 90 in Yellowstone or the Tetons, ie. 6000 ft?? " If your Yamaha is marginal at 1200 feet and 70 deg, I guarantee it will not work for you at 6000 feet and 90 deg. 6000 feet at 90 deg is more like a density altitude of 10,200 feet. All motors are derated several percentage points for each 1000 feet in elevation. I forget the derate amount but i am looking for it. It may be in your manual.

RE: Converter isn't going to cut it

I had the same problem the OP is having but mine was a WFCO 55 amp. I tried everything, bigger wire, 4 batteries instead of two, taking voltage down to 11.5 at rest. Finally, b4 I sent the second converter back I did one final test with 18" of #6 cable. (on the workbench) I had a zero center 60 amp meter, and a Fluke 89. Presto! It worked! Current went to 58 amps and slowly tapered. Charge voltage was 13.6 and slowly increased. For the first time the batteries charger in a reasonable amount of time. One thing I discovered and eliminated during this final test was the converter lead to the fuse circuit board was only #8. The whole time I thought it was #6 but it just had thick insulation. So comming out of my converter I had 30" of #8 (round trip total) Was this a choke point? I don't knew but you can be sure my Xanterx (which I love) has #4 for this section, then #6 to the batteries.

RE: No A/C for me with the Honda EU3000

All these suggestions and the OP never posts back. If my Champion 4000/3500 will run my 15K AC at 5000 feet, the Honda should run his 13500 and then some. Something is wrong with something. Sounds like he is happier with his 2-2K.

RE: 6.0 PSD Owners only please

2004 F-350 SRW CC short box Lariet 20+ highway at 70 9+ towing 14K 5er I use a Hypertech programmer set to tow mode and diesel additave. I wish I had the 2005 model as it has 3500 lb more GCWR 20,000 vs 23,500 but I still love my truck!

RE: Woohoo... I just got my $150 Champion Rebate

I just got 2-$150 rebates for one Champion. On one of them, they misspelled my last name by one extra letter. Since there is a return address, I am returning the misspelled one otherwise I'd be getting a generator for -$1.00. What a deal that would be.

RE: Electrical/Battery

Not a problem. In my original post I was just trying to get bph to study his connections, or as smkettner replied, get him to post a picture. I hope he got it resolved. No offence taken.

RE: Electrical/Battery

Guys, I didn't trouble shoot the 8 volts, I just knew there was something wrong. Jim said "You need someone to resolve this issue that knows what they are doing or someone may get hurt or you may burn your rig down." I did resolve it by hooking it up correctly. I know what I am doing. I routinely work on battery banks that would make a one ton truck squat! It was connected this way by someone else several days prior to my looking at it. There was no heat, fried cables, bulging batteries or arcing and sparking when I disconnected it. Sam, you said "CJW8, being a former instrument tech myself I hate to say this but come on now, how can you hook three 12 volt batteries up and get 8 volts? The answer is, you can't. My best guess is one of the 12 volt batteries is shot...have them all tested." I agree, but like I said I didn't troubleshoot the 8 volts. I didn't care. I just knew something was wrong and I corrected it so we could get to the task at hand... riding in the dunes. Since you were a tech, you know how anal we can be about some things. I have my personal Fluke 789 calibrated annually! I know and trust the voltages I saw and knew something was wrong. It could be the batteries were down and under load when I saw the 8 volts. There were several people in the coach at the time. I have seen literally hundreds of batteries measure 12 volts until a load was applied and then read anything from 2 to 12 volts. I never said you could wire 3 12 volt batteries to make 8 volts. I am an Instrument lead on 400 million dollar Oil and Gas platform so I think that qualifies me to know something about DC theory. You missed my whole point about some people not being able to see something was obviously wrong. I do understand and appreciate your safety concerns because I understand the current potential of large battery banks. All of those millions of little joules just stored up and waiting to get out, only held back by wire size and insulation. Given a large enough conductor, they can come all at once. Or worse, as with a reverse battery in the circuit, they collide with a big bang. If that were the case here, I think it would have happened when the batteries were first connected not several days after. I just know the batteries were reconnected correctly and the guy dry camped several more days running lights and heat at night and recharging during the daytime had no problems with battery life. Safety is #1 concern, then comes fun.

RE: Electrical/Battery

I have a friend that switched from 4-6V to 3-12 volt. He did it himself. Started having trouble right away and didn't know what the problem was. He had another friend/relative look at it and he said it looked ok. They called me over to take a look because they know I am an industrial instrument technician. At first, I said it looks ok but you had to look at it because all the 12's were not lined up with all the nag's on one side and all the pos on the other side. Two were side by side and one was on the end. Then something caught my eye and I said wait a minute. I measured the in and out post and there was only 8 volts and each battery individually was at 12+ volts. It was obvious something was not right. With three guys standing there telling me it was right I had to say no, it was not right. I got a pen and paper and drew it out for them b4 they could see it. We had to add one more battery connection (jumper) to make it right. I don't remember the circuit now but my point is, it can look right and not be right especially if the batteries are not all lined up. On his moter home things seemed to work when his engine was running because the alternator was providing 14 volts. I am guessing paralleling that with 8 volts gave him 11 volts, enough to make it work but not very good and he too had some strange symptoms.
